Judge Ronald D. Cox served the parishes of Lafayette, Vermilion, and Acadia as a 15th Judicial District Court Judge from 1980 until his retirement in December of 2002. In 1997, Judges Cox and Phyllis M. Keaty formed the 15th J.D.C.'s "Family Court." Judge Cox served on the Family Court until his retirement.

On January 1,2003, the family law firm of Cox Fitzgerald, LLC was formed. Cox Fitzgerald is now one of the largest family law firm in the Acadiana area (15th Judicial District comprising Lafayette, Acadia and Vermilion Parishes; the 16th Judicial District comprising St. Martin, Iberia and St. Mary Parishes and the 27th Judicial District, comprising St. Landry Parish).
